Frank Wright Forsgren

October 16, 1920 - December 3, 2010

So my grandpa got pneumonia about 2 1/2 weeks ago, after a few days and no improving we decided to take him to the doctors. The doctor put him in the hospital, on Friday I went and visited him so he could meet James, who was exactly one week old. After 3 days, on Monday, he went to a nursing home to get some strength back. Only he didn't get his strength back. He steadily got worse. On Friday, one week after being checked into the hospital, he peacefully passed away. We knew it was going to happen eventually, the man is 90 and can't live forever, but I just wasn't ready for it to happen this fast.

We had the funeral on Wednesday, I just have to say that funerals are depressingly sad. Although it was fun to hear stories other people had about him. My sister put out a memory bucket that people could write a memory they had of him.

Jeremy's memory was when he had Family Home Evening at my grandparents house. (It's been at least 6 years since we had it at their house) and Jeremy and I came late, we sat on the couch and Grandpa asked Jeremy if he was hungry. Jeremy said he was a little hungry but he'd be okay. But Grandpa turned to my older sister Brandy and told her to go make him a sandwich. We all looked at each other and wondered why he asked Brandy and not me, then Brandy said "Okay Grandpa". I met her in the kitchen and fixed it for him.

I wrote about the time he took me and Brandy ice skating on Pioneer Pond. Only none of the skates fit me so he pulled me behind him on a sled while he skated. He was a darn good skater. I also remember when he'd take us horseback riding by the old golf course. We'd have to earn our horseback rides by hanging out his car window and looking for golf balls (or as he called them balf golls) in the field across from the course. We would feed the horses cobs of corn and he would put us on bareback. Then he would pull his belt off and use that to lead the horse while he held his pants up by his hand.

He'd tell us we had sharp teeth when we ate vegetables, especially carrots.

He ALWAYS had a garden.

He would mix up words on purpose, like balf golls and Galoon (Lagoon).

When he ate something he really liked he'd tell us that he hadn't had it for years, even if we ate it last week, and we needed to fix it more often.

He would make up his own songs for us to dance to.

He'd ask us "Who's grandpa's girl?" --- I am

He would take us out to eat to a restaurant of our choice for our birthday.

Every weekend 2 of us got to sleepover at his house.

And so many more memories that I don't have room to write them all down.

About 17 years ago while my grandparents were in Hawaii my sister took me to the cemetery to show me the headstones my grandparents had just purchased. She told me they weren't home because they had died. I remember kneeling down and crying until she told me they weren't dead. They didn't have death dates on their headstones, they were just on vacation. I was so mad and so relieved at the same time. Now here we are, years later and I'm just wishing with all my heart that my sister will turn to me and tell me that he's not really dead, just on vacation somewhere. But she won't, because he's not.

He's such an cool guy with a lot of talents and a big generous heart. I miss you grandpa and love you even more!

At the Grave site.

His awards he recieved for serving in the Army.

Apryl, I am so sorry to hear about your grandpa. That is so hard to say goodbye to someone you love, especially someone as special and unique as your grandfather.
I hope that you will find comfort during this holiday season and continue to remember the wonderful and fun things you did with your grandpa.
